Bodyscapes Locker Rooms
Bodyscapes is a fitness center in the Longwood Medical Area. Their shower areas were cramped and starting to show their years, so Bodyscapes hired Construction Coordinators, Inc. (CCI) to perform renovations on them.
Bodyscapes remained open during construction, so the question soon arose of how to perform renovations while preserving the privacy of the changing areas. The showers were located at the back of the locker rooms, so any construction workers would have to travel through the entire changing area to perform any work. To solve this issue, CCI built a wall separating the changing areas from the shower area, so that it was completely isolated. This wall was a difficult installation, because privacy considerations require walls around locker rooms to reach all the way up to the underside of the floor above, and not merely end at the ceiling. After building the temporary wall, the locker rooms were separated from the work area, so CCI tunneled a hole through the non-loadbearing wall separating the two shower areas, to allow personnel, material and equipment to be transported through the men’s locker room, through the hole in the wall, and into the women’s shower area. Despite the difficulty of having to move all materials, equipment and personnel through a hole in the wall, CCI successfully renovated the showers to look brand new and to allow for more space.
Bodyscapes has been a high-quality fitness center for years, but now they are even better equipped to help people stay healthy and in shape—with a little help from CCI’s ingenuity.
