North Hill – Needham

North Hill is a senior living community in Needham that is dedicated to the philosophy of “PurposeFULL Living,” or a commitment to providing their residents with everything they need to pursue what is important to them. This philosophy holds true over all dimensions of wellness, including food service—after all, it’s tough to work on an empty stomach. Therefore, when the community’s main restaurant, the simply named Bistro, began to feel cramped, North Hill immediately contacted Construction Coordinators, Inc. (CCI) to expand the kitchen and add a new dining room.

The construction was largely straightforward, with straightforward challenges. As in other senior living communities, the residential nature of the work site meant that CCI had to be careful to contain noise and dust. Furthermore, the age of the residents led CCI to take extra care when moving materials to avoid disturbing them. The real difficulty came, however, toward the end of the project when CCI was installing the bar. It turned out that the original plan for the plumbing—to link it back to the kitchen’s plumbing—was impossible due to a large concrete beam in the floor, a relic of earlier constructions. CCI came up with an alternate plan: they ran a plumbing line through the floor, into the basement, down a long corridor, through the roof of an indoor pool (that was in use during construction!), and finally out to meet the main plumbing line.

Thankfully, CCI’s alternate plan meant that construction was finished on time, and the North Hill residents can now pursue their passions with stomachs full of delicious food from the Bistro.
