Fellsway Freestanding Building

Fellsway Plaza is a shopping mall in Medford that has been a popular retail spot for decades. The plaza has had several renovations over the years, but even so sales and interest were declining as its age became increasingly apparent. To reenergize the plaza, its owners hired Construction Coordinators, Inc. (CCI) to build a new, freestanding building on an empty parcel of land.

The construction was an entirely ground-up construction, requiring that CCI manage the construction of everything from the foundations to the façade—a difficult undertaking in the best of circumstances. However, the project was complicated by the fact that all of the tenants in the plaza remained open during the work. The presence of businesses and shoppers in the work area created issues for CCI concerning safety, the movement of materials, and the minimization of noise and debris, but in the end the project was completed safely and quickly.

The new building was immensely beneficial to Fellsway Plaza, as several new popular food options moved in, including Panera Bread. Now, the plaza has expanded its appeal as a modernized shopping destination, and is once again a major retail hotspot in the region.
